ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF METHANOLIC EXTRACT OF FLOWER OF Commelina clavata
Antioxidant activity of methanolic extract of whole plant of Commelina clavata was evaluated using the free radical scavenging activity of the Hydrogen peroxide radical scavenging activity, Reducing power assay and Phosphomolybdenum method. The phytochemical studies on the methanolic extracts of Commelina clavata have revealed the presence of phenolic compounds like Flavonoids and and terpinoids. In the method H2O2 scavenging activity of hydrogen peroxide method the absorbance values of Commelina clavata extracts show lower activity with that of standard values. Here ascorbic acid is used as standard. In this reducing power method the absorbance values of Commelina clavata show lower activity with that of standard values. Here ascorbic acid is used as standard. In this phosphomolybdenum method increase in the reaction mixture indicates increasing reducing power. For Commelina clavata extracts the absorbance values equal at 40 μg and from 20μg, 60 μg, 80 μg and 100 μg it shows this is having decreasing reaction. So Commelina clavata extract show comparable activity at 40 μg. Here DMSO is used as standard drug. The methanol extracts of whole plant of Commelina clavata was exhibited less potent anti-oxidant activity in H2O2 scavenging hydrogen peroxide method and reducing power method and potent anti-oxidant activity in Phosphomolybdenum method.
